About Doodle Tree Farm

Our journey

Dogs and puppies-126-lowres.jpg

What seems like a million years ago I fell in love with a pretty young dog, who turned out to be a Labradoodle. It was 1987 and we met her and her owner at a BAR B Q in our village in the UK. She was chocolate and had the softest wavy coat I had ever seen or touched. She had kind eyes and a calm personality that I liked immediately. Our meeting definitely left its mark.

I talked about her all the way home and I remember saying to my husband, “I want one of those as a family pet one day” Fast forward to 2004 and rest is history! We have loved the breed from that moment on and we have had at least one, two, three or four Doodles ever since. It took me nearly 20 years but we found our Gold Standard Dogs. My husband and I with our 3 boys, emigrated from the UK to Canada in 2004.

We brought with us a little tan wire haired Jack Russell called Spike. I have to say that Spike singlehandedly cleared our 5.5 acre property of all rabbits, mice, voles and rats. He had zero tolerance for all rodents but we also had a property which resembled a minefield. Terriers are quite the breed! The year after we arrived we purchased our first of many Canadian dogs. Grizzle was a cross between a black standard poodle mother and a golden retriever Father which made him an F1.

He was black with phantom markings and quite handsome. We were smitten. I began to have an interest in modeling good temperament in our dogs and the Doodles seemed to have an empathetic angle to their personalities. Then came Lily, a cream Labradoodle who is an F2, (Both parents were F1) with a personality to die for. At 2 she aced her Therapy dog assessments and went on to be certified with both adults and children. Lily produced a small but fabulous litter of 5 puppies.

Of course two of my boys wanted a pup each, Maple and Alfie. We of course kept one because we fell in love with Ruby. Finley went to our friends in Mill Bay and Lola went to Saskatoon to my good friend Tracey. Lola has been trained as the most wonderful Service dog, and never ceases to amaze her family with what she can do. My heart is full. Ruby provided us with her litter 3 years later. Producing, wait for it, 14 puppies. All smaller at birth than a normal litter size, but noisy, active and strong.

We selected yet another puppy for Service training and Riley resides with his owner in Duncan, helping with mobility issues and moral support. We kept the beautiful Tia from that litter. Tia romanced with a very handsome Laddie, a Goldendoodle (just to mix it up!) who gave her, wait for it, 14 puppies! All strong healthy puppies who grew into beauties. We again selected another puppy for service called Milton, who is in training to be a hearing dog for his human, Kyla in Cobble Hill.

Which brings us to Miss Socksie our cheeky smart and snuggly Double Doodle from this litter. All of our girls live with us, hike, bike, swim, camp and chill with us. They are part of the family.

As a recently retired RN, we decided to embrace our love of dogs and training, and commit to a business where we can bring well rounded, health tested puppies into the world using the skills we have learned along the way and evolving research to produce, family pets, Therapy dogs and dogs capable of Service Training.

Our puppies are raised in our home, on our 6 acre Christmas Tree Farm in Duncan, BC. Our parents are extensively Health tested for hip, elbow, patella, heart, eyes and genetic screening. We genetically test to plan for colour of litter and coat type too. Our dogs and puppies train with Badass/Ultimate Breeder protocols and incorporate the Avid Breeder philosophy too, and we start young!

We use early Neurological Simulation in the first weeks, and set safe mental and physical challenges to create problem solving, independent thinking puppies. We introduce them to the big wide world on warm sheltered days, so that their world is expanded. Crate training starts at about four weeks and impulse control (jumping, barking and biting) is worked on long before they find themselves into your homes.

Because we follow the Badass Breeding principles, we believe that the first 9 weeks of your puppy’s life can be shaped, cultured and influenced by us using socialization, life experience and training to bring you your “well rounded puppy”. We have extended our services to “puppy Raising” for other breeders. Occasionally life happens and a Breeder may need a safety net in case they are unable to finish rearing their litter of pups. We are experienced in raising pups and when possible are willing to help and support other breeders.

We pride ourselves on Donating yearly to families that require Emotional Support, Therapy and Service dogs.

We are not ageist either! If you are elderly and want a pup, we just want to make sure you have a Plan B in mind!

Well-rounded puppies for well-rounded people.

We are always interested in finding awesome families to become guardians of our potential breeding dogs. If this sounds like a fit for you and your family, you live within one hours drive of Duncan and are interested in knowing more about one of our “pick of the litter” puppies, we would like to hear from you.
